PIRS Projects 2026/27 Now Open!

The Leverhulme Doctoral Scholarship Centre for Interdisciplinary Resilience Studies is now accepting applications for studentships that begin in September 2026!

You can find project options, funding pathways, and a checklist of required documents here. The deadline to apply for a project is 31 January 2026.

When applying, please submit your application documents to the programme associated with your chosen project. The application link for each programme can be found within the project description.

There are two types of projects in this programme:

  • Supervisor‑led projects: proposed by supervisory teams (two or three academic staff from different Schools). Prospective students apply to these advertised projects.
  • Student‑led projects: proposed by prospective students themselves. Pitch your own idea and shape your research journey.

Choose a project that excites you — or bring your own idea to the table.

Each cohort supports six students:

  • 4 places for UK‑domiciled students
  • 1 place for an international (non‑UK) student
  • 1 place for a “Master’s + PhD” studentship to an eligible UK (or UK-domiciled) student

All studentships are fully funded for four years (fees + maintenance), with a ÂŁ2,500 annual research support and training grant. Funding aligns with current UKRI base rates.

The Master’s+PhD track is fully funded for five years, covering both the master’s and doctoral study.

Funding for the Master’s+PhD track is reserved for UK students from underrepresented groups.
